This inlay-knitted shirt is a masterclass in traditional Japanese craftsmanship, made from aged cotton and produced on a vintage loopwheel machine in Wakayama. Unlike standard cotton that arrives tightly compressed in bales, the cotton used here is carefully matured for 30–50 days in a temperature- and humidity-controlled room, restoring its natural fullness and softness before being spun into yarn.

The fabric itself is extraordinary: by using high-gauge thread in a challenging inlay knit, production is limited to just 48cm of fabric per hour — less than half the usual output of old loopwheel machines. Though inefficient, the result is a dense, uniquely soft textile with a moist hand-feel, thick body, and reduced stretch compared to standard loopwheel knits. The silhouette incorporates split sides for ease of movement, and construction details include a binder neck finished with three-needle stitching. One-washed for comfort and to remove shrinkage, this piece exemplifies the beauty of slow production and rare materials.
