The “Aoki Tachikage” 510 Regular Straight is part of Samurai Jeans’ striking Black-on-Blue denim series, inspired by the image of a samurai sword flashing through darkness. At first glance the fabric appears to be classic black-on-black denim, but with wear it reveals a far more complex character beneath the surface.
The 15oz selvedge denim is woven using a special #6 slub yarn and features a unique three-layer dyeing process. After the indigo rope-dyeing stage, the warp yarns are overdyed with black sulphide dye. As the denim ages, the black gradually fades to reveal the indigo beneath, which then continues to fade to expose the natural white core of the cotton — much like traditional indigo denim. A black weft that fades to grey adds further depth to the ageing process, producing dramatic and distinctive fade patterns over time. The selvedge edge is finished with Samurai’s signature silver lamé thread, evoking the gleam of a samurai blade.
