Naked & Famous Denim Strong Guy Relaxed Straight Mens Jeans - MIJ16 Genseki Selvedge
The MIJ16 Genseki Selvedge is raw denim in its most elemental form. Made from a formidable 19oz unsanforized Japanese selvedge, this fabric was developed to push texture, depth, and long-term character as far as possible. Genseki translates to “raw ore,” an unrefined material straight from the earth, and the name is more than fitting. From the first wear, the denim feels dense, rough, and unapologetically raw, with a heavily irregular surface that rewards time, movement, and patience.
Woven in Japan using slubby and neppy yarns, the fabric is low-tension woven to allow the fibres to relax and shift on the loom, exaggerating the uneven surface and visible neps throughout. An earthy-toned weft sits beneath the rope-dyed indigo warp, adding warmth and depth that will emerge as the denim fades. To keep the fabric’s hairiness and texture intact while removing sizing uncertainty, the MIJ16 undergoes a Tempi treatment, shrinking the denim without stripping away its raw character. Over time, expect dramatic high-contrast fades, deep creasing, and evolving texture on par with the most celebrated MIJ releases, with even more surface complexity than earlier iterations.
Every detail reflects its Made in Japan pedigree. The selvedge edge features an indigo–red–indigo micro-busted line, with a narrower width that allows the warp colour to run closer to the edge. Hardware is deliberately uncompromising, with 100% iron buttons that will rust and copper rivets that will oxidise with wear. A Japanese sheepskin leather patch bearing the “Flower of Carnage” logo anchors the back, while raised belt loops, two-tone stitching, a selvedge button fly, peekaboo selvedge coin pocket, chainstitched hem, and maple leaf embroidery on the back pocket complete the MIJ signature.
